The Children’s Center for Communication (CCC) is a community of learners and their families, administrators, faculty, specialists and support staff who share a recognition that communication is the pivotal skill for life long learning and success.
CCC uses research-supported best educational practices, to create individualized educational services for each student and utilizes a systematic approach to communication which includes the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and other methodologies. Our students are provided with opportunities for small group instruction, 1:1 teaching with direct instruction or Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) and dynamic experiential hands-on learning experiences. Individual programming is supplemented with consultation as well as direct 1:1 and group therapeutic services provided by CCC/BSD skilled SLPs, OTs, PTs, BCBA and School Psychologist. CCC offers a carefully combined therapeutic and learning schedule to offer students not only an excellent education but more importantly, a well rounded school experience.
CCC students are held to high expectations while nurtured to meet their own potential. Students present with a diverse range of diagnoses including: developmental, physical, and/or cognitive delays, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, and/or other learning disabilities. A strength-based approach frames individualized teaching of communication, academics, social and community/vocational skills all within a communication accessible environment, rich in visual supports and sensory regulation opportunities.
CCC recognizes the critical importance of respecting and teaching functional communication in the management of behaviors that may often be challenging. CCC emphasizes communication in the development of all positive behavioral support plans.
The Academic Program: The academic program includes preschool, elementary, middle and high school students. Communication skills are integrated into all academic and social situations throughout the day. A full range of developmentally-appropriate academic subjects, with goals and concepts aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks is offered. Using the latest in technology and software, including Smart Boards, Touch Screen Computers in all classrooms, Classroom Suite, Clicker 5, IntelliKeys, Board Maker 6 and more, curriculum is adapted and individualized for accessibility and motivation.
At age 14 a comprehensive Transition Plan is initiated. This includes opportunities to work, participate in community activities and expand independent living skills. Our Life Skills Center including a kitchen, laundry facilities and classroom allow for instruction and practice of critical skills for successful transition into adulthood. CCC strives to help students become as independent as possible, and student transition planning incorporates family support and resources in the areas of guardianship, living, and vocational/job opportunities.
